about joan tamkin
Joan is a passionate and dedicated artist. From her art history studies at Smith College to her extensive work in the world of interior design, creative expression has been a driving force in her life.
She has had the opportunity to immerse herself in the art world in many ways. Working in the corporate division of the rental gallery at LACMA led to her skill of matching emerging local artists with major business entities who wanted to enrich and enhance the ambiance of the workplace.
In the late seventies, Joan was appointed to the Board of the Otis Art Institute and served for many years until the college merged with the Parsons School of Design. The experience led to an understanding of how higher education serves young artists’ creative energy.
Joan’s work highlights her ability to bring materials together transforming them into collages and wall sculptures. The talent lies not only in the artistic vision but in her exquisite craftsmanship. Form, texture and composition are the fundamentals.
Joan has recently crafted unique table objects. The small assemblages look wonderful on table tops and shelves.
